Following An Adjustment

1.  NEVER SIT down immediately following an adjustment. Try to limit stretching, stooping, and bending as well.  Walking for 5 minutes IMMEDIATELY after an adjustment will make the adjustment 70% more effective.

2.  Benefits of WALKING after an adjustment:

  • Helps the mechanical correction "settle in"
  • Increases the neurological adaptation that completes the adjustment
  • Soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament, etc.) retraining
  • Pumps inflammation out of the joint and away from the nerve
  • Pumping motion will hydrate the disc with healthy fluid (imbibition)

3.  ICE. If the doctor has given you instructions to use ice:

  • Place the ice pack directly on the site of the subluxation (where the doctor adjusted you).
  • Do not place ice directly against skin (use thin towel, etc…).
  • Ice for 20 minutes at a time, taking at least a 20-minute break between each icing. During the intense phase of care, icing 3-4 times per day is optimal.

4.  NEVER USE HEAT. NEVER. Any questions?

5.  TIME. All body processes take time. Be patient with your body.
